Intervention 3—–event—–Comfort Zone Coffee(second phase)

My “Comfort Zone”

To help my stakeholders to articulate their concept of “comfort zone”. I start of by briefly introducing my own understanding of “comfort zone”. For me,”comfort zone” is something like Tofu. Tofu is soft and seems fragile, but it has strength, principle and structure. And the concept “tofu” can be synynoums of many things, such as my home country, nature, family, mother, rainbow and more…

Intervention Outcome:

Tom

Tom was a chef working in Jamie Oliver. Due to the brokedown of franchise, he lose his job became homeless for a while and is now selling Dope magazine outside the tube station.

“Comfor Zone does not have to be inside. For me, Comfort Zone is food, sun, rainbow, colors, for being with people. Everybody in the sun together, bring people with food, cuz I am a chef. Food is a good way to bring people together. The common motif can be food. Like you say Tofu, obviously you are thinking about the structure, and obviously can be same way the structure of Hunger. We are hungry and we are on a island, mean we will find interesting together with food you know.”

Tony

Tony is a veteren soldier and a homeless people in Kingscross

“A space, a home”

Martin

Martin is a high school student specialise in painting and textile.

“Comfort zone means no taking risk, no strive in life, and too fearful to try new things”

“Being in your comfort zone is being too scared to try new things and it destroys peoples ambitions. The only way to imrpove in life and better yourself is to “get out of” your comfort zone.

Jack

Jack is a homeless man in Holloway

“No brain, just existing.”

Hamid

Hamid is a homeless man in Kingscross. He was a carer of his grand mother. But due to his grandmother passing, their council house had been withdrawn and he became a homeless person.

“Death”

Colombus

Colombus was a British veteran soldier. Worked as training commander. Now being homeless for a while in Tufnell.

In terms of “comfort zone”, he show me his little plant. He collected falling leaves and nurture them in a little cup with water, still green. “When you get trees, you get oxygen. No trees, no where you can get.” He said.

And interestingly, he start to talked about “Berlin Wall”

“Berlin wall, it is not easy to build! You cannot build a new one today. I miss it because it control east and west business. I wish I didn’t cross the boarder that night.”

Adam

What Adam shown me is a small statue is Jesus, he displayed it on his foot.”He saved me, I had try to…… three times but he save me, I am not gonna hurt myself again.”

Adam is an homeless person in Kingscross, he had been in homeless for 15 years. He lost his father at the age of 15, due to alchohol abuse. “I never drink, I don’t want to pass like my father.”

He said he would buy a camera. “look at these people passing by, I really want to make a film of this, recording how people is ignoring us.” I said I did the similar things before, its like place yourself in a fish tank.

Adam is living in a van in a carpark in Acton, which is quite a serenity for him.

“What can you do to help? Suprise me Felix, suprise me.”Martins grin at me. Martins is a homeless people sit outside the Holloway Underground Station. He was a kitchen decorator. He had been homeless since last year due to job loss.

To comfort zone, he ask me to pay attention to the street, the people and the sunflower on the wall. Like the sunflower, he rise to the sun. He is full of zin and humor, although he had loss his home. He has a lot of friends, and roughly 6 people(men and women, old and young) known him and greet at him when pass by in every 10 minutes. “Hey George, buy me a pack of chips please.” Martins gave his own money to a old man passing by him, and George did gave him back the food, they smile and wave goodbye.

Summary

So far, my stakeholders presented what they think are their “comfortzone” are. They are topics related to life, safety, green environment, happiness, expectations, warmth, belief, passive life, human care, and positivity. Actually, I discover that these topics are closely related to our lives.

SWOT analysis

Strength: I had the courage to communicate with my stakeholders with clarity and respect. And most my stakeholders are proactive to help me. These really boost my confidence. Also, this updated method of collecting information can allows me to collect their actual response, and consolidate the outcome of my research way. The most of the story they have expressed through this intervention is genuine and postive, I am happy to see their attitude towards my query.

Weakness: I am lack of resources to give my stakeholders a positive environment in a regular basis. This lead to some failures since some of my stakeholders were not feel happy or comfortable enough to collaborate, some may be very hungry, some may be very stressed and tired. You can pull a horse by the river but you can’t force him to drink. Also, I find it hard to do it in a larger scale, to allow different people to join in and talk to each other. To give them a community, with warm food and drinks and secured enviroment.

Opportunity: The conversation I had with all of them are very positive. They show me the real face—-when they saw the coffee cup, they all shocked, and began to share their view.

Threats: Potential safety risks, health risks, is involved due to frequency of interventions. It is necessary for me to find a safe environment with people that I can ask for help at this point.
